The building and its atmosphere
Luxury, style and the elegance of times gone by
The building that houses the Grand Hotel Wagner combines culture and elegance, bringing with it stories of aristocracy and historical events that make it a place where you can breathe an atmosphere suspended in time.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century on behalf of the family of the knight commander Andrea Caminneci, the building has seen numerous transformations. It has hosted public bodies and aristocratic families such as the Signorino dei Baroni di San Nicolò family.
During the Second World War, its solid and robust cellars were used as an air raid shelter by the Allied forces and in the post-war period, the building was home to the offices and the costume room of the nearby Teatro Massimo.
In 2006, the structure was completely renovated to create a luxury hotel with state-of-the-art services, wishing to respect the art-nouveau style, furnishings and splendour that have always characterised the building.
Today, the Grand Hotel Wagner is a 5-star hotel that welcomes guests from all over the world and offers a refined and peaceful place to rest and breathe in the atmosphere of yesteryear, that same atmosphere that Richard Wagner himself breathed, having settled in Palermo for a few months and where he completed his masterpiece Parsifal during his stay in the city.
Be amazed by the precious carpets, the stained glass windows hand-engraved by local artisans, the marble columns and the furnishings that faithfully reproduce the style of an era of pomp, culture and aristocracy.

The “Gattopardo’s” Chandelier
Once you enter the hotel lobby, you cannot help but look up in admiration at the reproduction of the famous chandelier used in the ball scene of the film “Il Gattopardo” (The Leopard) with Claudia Cardinale and Burt Lancaster.
Admiring this handcrafted masterpiece is like diving into the atmosphere of the film and of aristocratic Sicily.

The Fireplace Room
The Fireplace Room is a sophisticated, elegant room for relaxing. It has been used several times as a set for period films thanks to its faithful representation of the style of the early 1900s. The original frescoes, the comfortable sofas and the ancient fine marble fireplace create a unique atmosphere that catapults you into a glittering past.
